Where it started.
The Grove Guest House went through a lot of changes before becoming the boutique hotel it is today. The building was built in 1893 as an addition to Dr. Evans' drug store. The new hospital, Evansville Sanitarium, was run by Dr. J.M. Evans, Jr. Many doctors and physicians alongside Dr. Evans treated the sick, performed surgeries, and saw their patients for check-ups until 1926. Around 1927, the Evansville Sanitarium was leased out for the Wisconsin Telephone Company's new quarters. Many renovations were done to the former hospital to accommodate the telephone company's business offices and large apparatus room. Then in 2019, the building was renovated once again to become the first modern boutique hotel in Evansville. The Grove Guest House features two cozy suites for short-term residency. Each suite is named after a notable person that was from Evansville.
